Process Arch^Up Debate: Does Melbourne Need Starchitecture? In December 2017, Process moved location to the MPavilion to conduct the annual Arch^Up Debate and asked the question, Does Melbourne Need Starchitecture? Celebrated as the “world's most livable city” the economic framework, latent potential and evolving identity of Melbourne suggests a new frontier of architectural opportunity and exploration. Global knowledge and experience purports to reinvigorate and agitate local architectural production and discourse. Can starchitecture prompt the reframing of a city’s projected reality?
Speakers included:
Joachim Clauss — Associate director at Bates Smart
Mark Raggatt —ARM Architecture co-director
Nicole Allen — Senior designer at Grimshaw and masters studio leader at MSD
Sarah Lynn Rees — A Palawa woman descending from the Plangermaireener people of north-east Tasmania, Charlie Perkins scholar, director of Indigenous Architecture and Design Victoria (IADV) and project manager of MPavilion’s inaugural regional program
Process is an independent public forum on architecture and related fields held on the first Monday of each month at Loop Bar. My output was literal and figurative responses to the theme of each event, usually in a typographic and abstract fashion. These designs were applied to social media channels, projections, and posters.
